Title: Attitudes of Muslim People Towards English Language Learning

Abstract: The purpose of this study was to find out the"Attitudesof MuslimPeopleTowardsEnglish Language Learning". The researcher selected the Muslimpeople of Nepalgunjmunicipality and Madarashas of Banke district. The totalsample size was 40:two groupsof informants including literate and illiteratewho were selected using quota sampling procedure. Thus, out of 40 informants,20 were literate and 20 were illiterate. A high level of disagreement (90%) wasfound in the first category 'Language learning difficulties'. Mainly, Muslimswere interested to learn English. Theyarereadyto learntheEnglish languageifthey have good environment. Likewise, 72.5% was found positive towards thesecond category 'causes of learningEnglish' and theysaidthevalue andimportanceoftheEnglish language. Similarly,regarding the third category'social impact',57.5% was found positive towards their society and theyexpressed that their societyis infavour of learningtheEnglish language.Relatively, a high level of disagreement or 80% Muslims were not interested intheEnglish culture towardsthe category 'cultural impact'. This shows that theyare strong in their Islamic culture. In the similar way, 70% Muslims agreedtowards the 'economic impact'. Theyareinterestedto send their children atprivate boarding schools but their economic status is not good. They opinedthat students need lots of materials and facilities but they are deprived ofgetting and buying different facilities and materials for better learning oftheEnglish language due to low economic status. Finally, the majority of theinformants (90%) were negative towards the category 'religious impact'. Theyopined that there is not any hindrance of religion intheEnglish languagelearning. Furthermore, they added that their religion encouragestolearneverything. Altogether 30statementswereproposed. Out of these 30statementsonly 20 statements wereresponded positively towards the Englishlanguage learning. This thesis consists of four chapters, chapter one incorporatesgeneralbackground, review of the related literature, objectives of the study, andsignificance of the study. Chapter two consists of methodology applied to carryout the research work. It deals with sources of data, sampling procedure, toolsfor data collection, procedure of data collection and limitations of the study.Chapter three presents the analysisand interpretation of attitudeof Muslimcommunity. The data were analyzed and interpreted categorically. Chapter fourdescribes the findings of the study in different categoriesalong withrecommendations and pedagogical implications
