Abstract: This research attempts to explore the will of the freedom and democracy emerging in the colonizers as well as colonized in Steinbeck’s novel The Moon is Down.Mayor Orden along with the townspeople feels excessively hurt after the occupation in their town by the unnamed armed force. People tolerate the brutality of the invading force but their love for nation and nationality always hunt them and the great hurt burst into resistance. Thus, the study explores the psyche of the local peoples at the time of invasion. Along with it, it also tries to unravel the inner psyche of the invading soldiers. The desire of freedom and enjoy in democratic system is the reality interwoven into the psyche of all people.
