Abstract: The thesis"Complement Clauses in English and Maithili: A Comparative Study"endeavors to analyze, compare and contrast complement clauses in English and Maithili languages. The first chapter is introductory in nature. It includes general background, background and origin of Maithili and English languages, importance of grammar,statement of problem, objectives of the study, significance of the study,research methodology,review of literature, limitations of the study and organization of the study. The second chapter deals with the study of Complement Clauses in English on the basis of different traditional and modern grammars. The third chapter which is one of the focal points of the dissertation has presented the analysis of Complement Clausein the Maithili language. The chapter analyses Complement Clauses on the basis of traditional and modern grammars. The fourth chapter which is the focal point of the thesis has found out some similarities and differences in English and Maithili languages in terms of Complement Clauses. And the fifth chapterdeals with pedagogical implication,summary and conclusion of the whole dissertation.
