Abstract: The thesis entitled‘A Study on English for Academic Purposes (EAP) to the Students of Science and Technology’is an attempt of the researcher to find out what academic English language is needed to the students of ST. Another aim of the study was to find out whether or not there was compatibility of the needs specified by the ST students and lecturers and conclude the thesis with findings and pedagogical implications. To fulfill the objectives of the research 20 ST students and 10 ST lecturers from two campuses were randomly selected. Out of 20 ST students, 10 students were selected from Public Science Campus Surkhet and 10 students from Mahendra Multiple Campus Nepalgunj. Similarly, out of 10 ST lecturers, 5 were selected from Public Science Campus Surkhet and 5 ST lecturers from Mahendra Multiple Campus Nepalgunj. Two separate questionnaires were developed to find out the responses of the ST students and lecturers. And then, the collected data were analyzed and interpreted. The major findings of the study show that, English language is mandatory to the ST students with the purposes of ST tasks such as lab report writing, report presentation, listening lectures, etc. It was also found that there was no compatibility between the needs specified by the ST students and lecturers. For example, ST students wanted to improve pronunciation aspect of English whereas ST lecturers wanted to improve faster more effective reading aspect of English of their students. This thesis has been divided into four chapters; introduction, methodology,analysis and interpretation, and findings. The first chapter deals with the general background, literature review, objectives and significance of the study.The second chapter contains the methodology which is sub-chaptered as the sources of data, sample and sampling procedure, tools for data collection,process of data collection and the limitations of the study. The third chapter includes the analysis and interpretation of the data obtained from the field. The last, fourth chapter has the findings and recommendations of the study in which x some pedagogical implications have been recommended to better the findings of this study as well as to strengthen such further studies. Eventually,abbreviation is given in the front part of the thesis and the lists of the appendices are given in the last part of the thesis.
