Abstract: The present research is the study of English Code Mixing in The Blast Times Daily.This study is an attempt to find out the mixed English codes in the newspaper The Blast Times Daily in terms of word classes, English abbreviations and frequency and percentage. The sample of the study is taken fifteen issues of The Blast Times Daily. The sampled issues were selected judgmentally from 15 th January to 29 th January 2012. It consisted total 63776 words from the issues and 1528 mixed English words. All the words mixed in sampled issues were from major word classes. From the major word classes, nouns were used maximally and verbs, adjectives and adverbs were used in the first, second and last position respectively. This thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter deals with general background of the study. It contains linguistics, code-switching and code-mixing, mass media and their significance, introduction of journalism, fundamentals of language structures, review of the related literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study. The second chapter deals with the methodology of the study. It includes sources of data, sampling procedures,tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of this study. Similarly, the third chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation of the collected data for the study where I adopted simple statistical tools to find out frequency and percentage. The last chapter of this thesis presents the findings and some recommendations based on the above analyzed and interpreted data. At the end,references and appendices along with some sample newspapers are presented.
