Abstract: This research work entitled"Expressing and Finding out Emotional Attitudes in English and Doteli"is an attempt to find out the forms of likes and dislikes and sympathy and condolence in Doteli and to compare them with the forms in the English language. To fulfill the objective of this study the researcher selected the sample of 40 native speakers of the Doteli language.They were selected using non random purposive sampling procedure from Kanchanpur district. The responses from native Doteli speakers obtained through questionnaire/interviews schedule served as primary data for the study.However, the secondary sources were used for collecting data for likes anddislikes and sympathy and condolence in English. The responses ofrespondents were coded for analysis and interpretations. On the basis ofanalysis and interpretation of the data, the researcher came tothe findings thatDoteli speakers used more formal exponents of likes and dislikes and sympathy and condolence than those of English speakers. Doteli speakers used less number of formal expressions of likes and dislikes to their teachers than thoseof English speakers. This thesis is divided into five different chapters. The first chapter,'introduction' which includes the background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives, research questions, significance. The second chapter reflects the store house of the knowledge related to this study with review of the theoretical literature and empirical literature followed by implication of the review for the study and conceptual framework. The third chapter deals withthe methodology employed to conduct the study. It gives information about themethod and design of the study, population sample and sampling strategy,study area or field, data collection tools, data collection procedure and dataanalysis and interpretation procedure. Collected data are presented, analyzed and interpreted in the fourth chapter.It deals with the forms of likes and dislikes and sympathy and condolence in English and Doteli and comparisonon the basis of formality. It also includes the summary of the findings. The fifth chapter consists of conclusion and recommendation of the study followed by references and appendices.
