Abstract: This is a case study related to the prime concern of this study was to find out the mathematics achievement of community schools and their strategies for mathematical improvement, specifically learning strategies promoted by community- based school in Nawalaparai District. Particularly, it is a case study that attempts to analyze the teacher and students work in classroom, analyze the learning environment for mathematics learning, to identify the teaching methods used by mathematics teacher for mathematics instruction, to identify the instructional strategies promoted by school for mathematics teaching and learning and to find out additional support for low performer in mathematics. The face-to-face interview with students, parents, mathematics teacher and Head Teacher is also taken. Such collected data were analyzed by using thematic categorization and interpreted according to the theory of school improvement. The finding of this study shows that only the method and material are not sufficient for school improvement and to achieve better result in mathematics. Teachers, Students and community member are highly concerned about the school. Teacher and their teaching methods are not only main factors of school improvement. Overall learning environment including parental involvement evaluation system and techniques, regular meeting of the staff and management committee are supporting agents for better achievement. Also instructional strategies reinforcement and additional support for low performer, qualified and experienced teacher are the vital factor of better achievement in mathematics.
