Abstract: The title of the study is 'Use of Pictures in Teaching Guided Writing at Basic Level'. The main aim of this study is to measure the effectiveness of picture in teaching guided writing at basic level (Grade-5). It has been carried out partially and comparatively. It is an experimental research. To carry out the research,thirty students of grade five studying at 'Phewa Secondary English Boarding School'situated at Kerabari-10, Morang were selected as sample population. The sampling procedure of this study was purposive sampling procedure under non-random sampling procedure. The major tools for the collection of the data were test. The mode of the test was written. A pre-test was administered before teaching to determine the proficiency of the students at first.Then, they were divided into two groups on the basis of their sources of the pre-test. After teaching thirty periods to both groups, post was administered. Then, both tests were compared to determine the effectiveness of the pictures. The main findings of this research were that teaching guided writing through pictures at grade five is more effective than teaching without using pictures. If the teachers use pictures in teaching writing skill inside the classroom, student's learning achievement can be better than those who are not taught using pictures. The thesis has been organized into five chapters. The first chapter includes introduction, background of the study, statement of the problem, research questions, significance of the study, delimitation of the study and definition of the terms used. The second chapter incorporates information about review of theoretical literature, empirical literature implication of the review for the study and conceptual framework.The third chapter deals with the design and method of the study, population of the study, sampling procedure, data collection tools and procedure and data analysis procedure.The fourth chapter includes Analysis and interpretation of the result, summary and discussion of findings.The fifth chapter viii includes findings, conclusions and recommendations. Lastly references and appendixes are incorporated.
