Abstract: This thesis entitled "Use of Classwork and Homework in Controlled Writing and Guided Writing" aimed to find out the importance of classwork and homework for the students and how they are useful in controlled writing and guided writing. For this purpose, the data were collected through the questionnaire and test items selecting 30 students and 11 teachers from Gauriganj Secondary School. The research was carried out using both primary and secondary sources of data. A set of test items consisting guided writing and controlled writing was the tool for the data collection. The data were analyzed and interpreted. The finding showed that homework is better than classwork for the students. Similarly, the students were more proficient in controlled writing than guided writing. The students have been found poor in describing the points or hints with their opinions in guided writing. This thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with the background of the study, statement of problem, objectives of the study, significant of the study, delimitation of the study and definition of the key terms. The second chapter includes review of the empirical literature, implication of review for the study and conceptual or theoretical framework. The third chapter deals with the method and procedures of the study which were applied to carry out research. It deals with the design of study, population and sample, sampling procedures, data collection, data analysis and interpretation procedures. The fourth chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation of test results, analysis and interpretation of pre evaluation form and major problems of the study. The fifth chapter presents the summary, conclusion and implication followed by references and appendices.
