Abstract: The research study entitled English Code Mixing: A Case of Jail Journal was conducted to find out English mixed codes in Jail literature, to analyse the English mixed code from Jail Journal on the basis of word class and Ho (2007) linguistic framework and to suggest some pedagogical implications. I have used case study to carry out the research data. Jail Journal was taken as a universal population of the case study. I have used purposive sampling strategies for collecting data for my study. For sample, I have selected 100 mixed English expressions from the autobiography. Likewise, I have employed the observation and note taking as tools for the secondary sources of data collection. Data were analysed descriptively based on number and functions of code mixing. From the findings of the study, it can be concluded that out of selected English mixed words, there were maximum use of nouns and naming words according to word class. On the basis of Ho (2007) framework; proper noun, lexical words and phrases were found in high in number in comparison with other linguistics units in the Jail Journal. Similarly, verbs, preposition and adjectives were used commonly but the adverbs were found two in numbers. On the other hand, letter of alphabet and single full sentences were used commonly but short form and incomplete sentences found in minimum number. Similarly, the findings showed that the most used situational contexts were jail, Nepalese politics, King Mahendra monarchy and world literature as well. There were different 6 functional contexts of codes mixing in the text. They were; restricted vocabulary, to convey special attitude, emotion and stressful situation, habitual expression, mood of the speaker, using political, philosophical and literary language and to show respect and relation This thesis consists of five chapters. Likewise, the third chapter incorporates the methods and procedures of the study, which covers design, and method of the study, population, sample and sampling strategies, research tools, sources of data, data collection procedures, data analysis procedures and ethical considerations. In the same way, the fourth chapter incorporates the analysis and interpretation of the data. Furthermore, the fifth chapter incorporates the findings and conclusions of the study followed by some policy related, practice related, and further research related recommendations based on the study. Finally, the references and the appendices, which are necessary to the validation of the research, have also been presented.
