Abstract: The study entitled "An Analysis of School Basketball tournament in Kathmandu District" was conducted in the boarding schools of Kathmandu district. The purpose of the study was to find out the situations, problems and other related information on this topic. Ten schools are chosen from different places within Kathmandu district which organize school basketball. The schools were chosen purposively among many schools that used to organize tournaments since last 5 years regularly. The study data and information were taken from principals, coaches, sports teachers and student players of study schools Small check list was developed to get information of court size, status and event categories that were conducted in tournament. Questionnaire was developed for student players to get the necessary information regarding tournaments they played. Structured interview were taken from principals, sports teachers, coaches for the fulfillment of the study and also taken from other experts, association members and referees. The primarydata collected for this study to find out the situations and other information related to school basketball tournaments in these schools. The major finding of the study was that more schools and students were involved in basketball competitions. Through these competitions students enhance their skills, show their sport talent, their social and other life skills. Schools were also benefited by these competitions for their promotion and using as their marketing strategy. In the tournaments nearly all the schools expenses more than four hundred thousand rupees per year in coaches salary, equipment, uniform, nutrition, transportation beside that they separately add extra budget in organizing their school tournament. They provide scholarship to the deserving student players and extra coaching classes to the academically weak student players. The study have revealed that majority of experts said it has good future because it is much more popular in city areas schools. It should be spread around Nepal for more popularity and bringing more people to play. It is best game in small areas. They also suggested that it won’t much future unless, it should be moved on planned way in competition management, infrastructure, player development, coaches and referees development programs. After drawing the conclusion, the researcher had suggested to work on sufficient physical facilities and well management to run the tournaments properly. Regardless of number of tournaments were being held for the school level basketball. It is to focus on age-based basketball which is the key to success for identifying the talents. For example, mini-basketball, U-14, U-16 basketball in boys' and girls' categories, are essential to develop the basketball in Nepal and proper policies and planning to address the problem regarding the conduction of competition for the development of basketball in school level
