Abstract: This thesis is an endeavour to explore the level of writing skill with similarities and differences between the tenth graders from the selected public and private schools of Kaski district. The primary data were collected through questionnaires and interviews from the population sampled. The population of the study comprised ten schools -five public and five private - sixty students from both types of schools. On the basis of the explicit and implicit differences in the standard of the skill in English essay writing, the problem formulated for the research was what the causes behind the differences were, and how these differences could be avoided. After the analysis of the collected data, the study has come to the conclusion that the reason behind the difference was the special focus on creating English environment with some additional courses in English and friendly environment at school between students, teachers and parents in private schools, which is not in practice in public school. Comparative analysis has been applied as the theoretical tool for interpretation.
