Abstract: This thesis entitled "The Effectiveness of Language Games for Teaching Tense at Secondary Level" was an attempt to find out the effectiveness of language games for teaching tense in grade nine. The study was an experimental in nature. The researcher selected grade nine students of Shree Arunodaya Secondary School of Bhojpur district through non-random sampling procedure. Firstly, he administered the test items to find out the existing proficiency level of the students. Then, he divided the students into experimental and controlled group on the basis of marks obtained from the pre- test. He took 28 classes using language games and administered post-test in order to find out the progress of the students from the pre-test and difference between two groups in post-test. The difference was detected from the comparison of the results of two tests. It has been found that students under experimental group have performed better in post-test than controlled group. It means the use of language games in teaching tenseproduced better results than the use of lecture method. This study consists of five chapters. Chapter one consists of background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and operational definitions the key terms. Chapter two consists of review of related theoretical literature, review of empirical literature, implications of the study and conceptual framework. Chapter three includes methods and procedures adapted during the study which incorporates design of the study, population, sample and sampling strategy, research tools, sources of data (primary and secondary), data collection procedures, data analysis procedures and ethical considerations. Similarly in chapter, analysis of data and interpretations has been presented. Chapter five contains findings, conclusion and recommendations. References and appendices are also included at the end of this work to make it more valid.
