Abstract: The present study entitled "Development of Speaking through Group Work" is an attempt to find out the usefulness of group work in development of speaking skill at grade eight students. It is an action research. In order to carry out this study, I selected thirty-two students of class eight of Shree Machchhindra Higher Secondary School, Kerabari-8, Morang. The sampling procedure of this study was judgmental sampling procedure under non-random purposive Maneuver. For the study, I used them as primary sources of data. The primary data was collected from all the thirty-two students of grade eight of the school. After selecting the sampling population, a questionnaire was employed to determine the student's initial proficiency on the selected items. They were taughtusing group worktechnique. During that period, the students were active in study. They tried to ask question to each other and also tried to respond with suitable answers to the questionnaire. Through the analysis and interpretation of the collected data, it was found that group work was really useful technique in the development of speaking skill. This thesis has been organized into five chapters. The first chapter includes introduction: background of the study, statement of the problem, research questions, significance of the study, delimitation of the study and definition of the terms used. The second chapter incorporates information about review of theoretical literature, empirical literature, implication of the review for the study and conceptual framework. The third chapter deals with design and method of the study, population of the study, sampling procedure, data collection tools and procedure and data analysis procedure. The fourth chapter includes analysis and interpretation of the result and summary and discussion of findings. The fifth chapter includes findings, conclusions and recommendations. Lastly, references and appendix are included for added support and convenience.
