Abstract: This study entitled “Using Contextual Factors to Promote Students’ motivation in English Language Teaching” intended to find out the contextual factors that motivate students towards learning English language and suggest some pedagogical implications.Survey research design was used in this study. Fifty secondary level students and twenty teachers were selected as a sample using random sampling procedure. In this study, close-ended and open-ended questionnaires were used as data collection tools and data were analyzed statistically and descriptively to derive findings. It was found that school or classroom environment, teaching style,reward, positive feedback and peer relationship are major motivating factors to students while learning English language. It was also found that boring teaching method, uninteresting teaching materials, inadequate classroom or school facilities are major least motivating factors.Finally, it was found that peer relationship is the most motivating contextual factors for the students. The study consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with the background of the study, statement of the problem, objectives of the study, research questions, rational of the study, delimitations of the study and the operational definitions of the key terms. The second chapter deals with the review of the theoretical and empirical literature, implications of the review for the study and conceptual framework of the study. Likewise, the third chapter deals with the methodology adopted for the study which includes design of the study, population,sample and sampling strategy, research tools, sources of data, data collection procedures and data analysis and interpretation procedures of the study and ethical considerations. The fourth chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation of the collected data. In the same way, the fifth chapter presents the findings based on the analysis and interpretation of the data, including conclusion derived from the findings and recommendations in policy related, practice related and further research related level. Finally, the references and the appendixes, which are necessary for the validation of the research, have also been presented.
