Abstract: The present study,The Role ofEnglish Medium Schoolsto EnhanceSpeaking Proficiency, has been carried outin order to find out theroleofEnglish Medium Schoolsto enhance students’ speaking proficiency ofprivate schools.It was a casestudy. In orderto carry out thestudy, Ichosefourgrade ninestudents of a private school,Creative EnglishSchool, Chabahil, Kathmandu.The main tool of my study wereobservation, checklist and tape recording.Iobserved students for thirtydays.Students were observedin both formal and informal situations.Theywere foundconfident, fluent and committing less grammaticalerrors in formal situation whereas theywerefoundtomix codeswhilespeaking. Thisthesisisdividedinto five different chapters. The first chapter,'Introduction' includes the background, statement of the problem,rationale,objectives,research questions,significance, and delimitationsof the study.Thesecond chapterincludesthe theoretical knowledge tosupport the present study byreviewingthetheoretical andempiricalliteratureon the basis of whichconceptual frameworkwasdeveloped.The third chapter deals with the methodology employed to conduct thestudy. It gives information about the design of the study, populationandsample, sampling procedure, data collectiontools, data collectionprocedure and dataanalysis and interpretationprocedure.The collecteddata are presented, analyzed and interpreted in the fourth chapter. Thefifthchaptersummarizes and concludes thewhole study.Someimplicationsof the studyare presented in thesame chapter.The fifthchapter is followed by thereferences and appendices to make the studyreliable, valid and authentic.
