Abstract: The present study entitled “Use of Continuous Assessment System(CAS)inDeveloping Proficiency on Grammatical Items"is basically an action research.The main objective of this study was to find out the development proficiency ongrammaticalitems through CAS in English at primary level. In order to fulfill theobjective of this study,IselectedManjushree Secondary School Jyamrung,Dhading and all the students of grade5(i.e. 29)were the sample.Iusedpurposivenon-random procedure to select the field of this study.Iused bothprimary and secondary sources of data to fulfill the objectives of the study. It wasan action research, so Itaught thirty lessons usingcontinuous assessment.Observation and tests were used as research tools butchecklist, homework, classwork,behaviorchange, attendance and creative work werealso usedunderobservation. Collected data were interpreted and compared to find out thedevelopmentinproficiencyon grammatical items.The research resultshowedthatcontinues assessment system hadpositive influence on developing proficiencyin grammatical items in comparisonto the result of pre-test andpost-test. This thesis consistsof five chapters;the first chapter includes the background,statement of the problem,rationaleof the study, objectives of the study, researchquestions, significance of the study, delimitations of the study and the operationaldefinitionsof the key terms. The secondchapter deals with reviewof relatedempirical literature, review of related theoretical literature, and implications of thereview for the study along withconceptualframework. The third chapterincludes,design of the study, population and sample, sampling procedure, data collectiontools, data collection procedure and data analysisand interpretation procedure.The fourth chapter deals with the results and discussion of the data. In the sameaway the last chapter comprises summary, conclusion and implications. References, model of the test, test items and lesson plansare added in the finalpart of the thesis.
