Abstract: The present study entitled 'Teacher's Beliefs on the Qualities of Teacher' has been carried out under the Department of English Education, University Campus, Kirtipur , Kathmandu. The main objective of this research work was to find out beliefsof English teachers on some qualities (personal, social and professional) required for teaching, and also to identify the challenges faced by the teachers in their teaching language courses. To meet the specified objectives of the study, questionnaire was used to collect the dataand 40 English teachers from twenty different +2 schools andcollege level of Kathmandu valley were the sample of this study. Thepurposive non-random samplingprocedure was used to select the sample. The data obtained from the research tools was analyzed statistically and descriptively by using graphic presentation such as tables, graphs etc. It was identified that the majority of the experienced teachers (35%) believedon the social and professional qualities which are more important in comparison to personal qualities in their learning. There are specific challenges that a teacher faces for example, to use of first language, lack of materials, homework assignment and training etc. x The whole thesisconsists of five chapters. Chapter one deals with general background, statement of problem, rationaleof the study, objectives, research question and operational definition of key terms. The second chapter consists of literature review, implication of the literature review and theoretical framework of the study. The third chapter deals with design of thestudy, population of the study, sampling procedures, data collection tools, data collection procedures and data analysis and interpretation procedure s. similarly, the fourth chapter covers the whole discussion and last chapter incorporates summary, conclusions and implications of the study. The final section of the study incorporates the references and appendices.
