Abstract: This study entitled Challenges of Secondary Level Female English Language Teachers for Their Professional Development. The main objectives of this study were to explore the professional and personal challenges of female teachers and to find out the working environment. Qualitative descriptive research design was used for this study. To meet the objectives of the study, four secondary level female English teachers currently teaching in community schools of Kirtipur Municipality were selected using purposive sampling strategy. In -depth interview were used as techniques of data collection and semi- structured interview were used as tools of collect the data. From the analysis of data and interpretation of results, the study showed that heavy workload, unsatisfactory salary, participation in teacher training, harassment, gender, lack of administrative support, domination and unequal treatment by the schools are the professional challenges of female English teachers. Likewise, lack of cooperation from family members, difficulties in time management, low economic status and negative perception of the society are the personal challenges of female English teachers. Similarly, unequal treatment, discrimination, negative attitude about pregnancy and menstruation, not given equal opportunities are the working condition of schools. The thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter deals with background of the study, statement of problem, objectives of the study, significance of the study, delimitation of the study and operational definitions of the key terms. Similarly, the second chapter consists of the review of the study and conceptual framework for the study. The third chapter deals with the methodological aspect of under which design of the study, population sample, sampling strategies, data collection tools, data collection procedure and data analysis and interpretation procedures and ethical considerations. The fourth chapter deals with analysis of data and interpretation of results. The fifth chapter includes the findings, conclusions and recommendations. Some recommendations related to policy, practice and further research are presented in this section. This chapter is followed by references and appendices.
