Abstract: | The present research work analyses the crisis of identity of Jemubhai, Sai, Biju and Gyan, as the research question. All of them struggle with their identity and fail to maintain a foothold within the encroaching Westernization. In a crumbling, isolated house at the foot of Mount Kanchenjunga in the Himalayas lives Jemubhai who wants only to retire in peace, when his orphaned granddaughter, Sai, arrives on his doorstep. Biju is hop scotching from one gritty New York restaurant to another. An Indian-Nepali insurgency in the mountains interrupts Sai's blossoming romance with Gyan. It causes their lives to descend into chaos, forcing them to consider their colliding interests. And the present research contests their quest for identity in postcolonial India. |
