Abstract: This research is an attempt to show irony on Narayan's Talkative Man in which he ironizes the world the characters are living. The narrator, talkative man wants to further his fledging journalistic career by using a fraud, Rangan from the southern part of India. In doing so, he becomes an accomplice as he cooperates in promoting illegal activities Rangan is involved in Rangan, who calls himself Dr. Rann pretends that he is conducting a research on the UN project, but ironically his own activities and dealings land him in his deserted wife's trap. Later, he turns out to be a terrible womanizer and cheat. The novel ironically exposes the tragic state of the protagonist and thus, irony turns out to be a means of a rhetorical weapon to foreground the basic concept of it so as to reveal the unexpected result.
