Abstract: This study aims at finding out the problems or area/s of problems in teaching 'Social studies' through English language in government schools. Because both parents and students are attracted to English language, people are sending their children to English medium private schools. Parents are sending their children to private school though it is highly expensive in comparison to the government schools, on the other hand, government schools are loosing its students day by day and some classes are almost being empty. To avoid such problems, in these recent years, some of the government schools have been running both English and Nepali medium classes. But the teachers and materials for teaching 'Social studies' in English medium are difficult to find. In this scenario, this study tries finding the problems in teaching 'Social studies' in government schools. This thesis "Problems in teaching Social studies through English in government school" was carried out to find the problems and possible solutions in teaching 'Social studies' through English language in government schools. For this, three schools around Urlabari and Mikljung area were purposively choosen and study tools were applied on few students and teachers there. They have claimed that the 'Social studies' is not so difficult in comparision to other subjects like 'Science' and 'Mathematics' but it has some difficult units consisting of vast contents. Lack of resource materials is claimed to the next huge problem in teaching 'Social studies' through English in government schools. This thesis consists of five different chapters. Introduction, review of related literature, methods and procedure of the study, analysis and interpretation of results and conclusion and recommendation are the chapters dealt respectively from one to five.
