Abstract: Bhojpuri belongs to the eastern sub-group within the Indo-Aryan language family along with other Indo-Aryan languages of India, such as Hindi, Gujarati, Marathi, etc. It descends ultimately from an old Indo-Aryan speech represented by the oral/written documents of Sanskrit. The relationship of Maithili to other Indo-Aryan language is a subject of considerable scholarly debate. Bhojpuri is that branch of the Indo-Aryan language, which is spoken in Nepal and India and is the cultural and literary language of the country since long. English is an international language which is a common lingua franca as well. It has played a crucial role in international communication of thoughts, ideas and sentiments. It is spoken as a first, second and foreign language all over the world. This work entitled "Passivization in Bhojpuri and English: A comparative study" attempts to describe the processes of passivization in both languages along with their kinds and syntactic structures. This thesis consists of six chapters. The first chapter gives the introduction of the Bhojpuri language. It also gives an outline of the entire study. The second and third chapters are the focal points of this dissertation which deals with processes of passivization in Bhojpuri and English respectively. The fourth chapter deals with the similarities and differences between English and Bhojpuri in terms of processes of passivization. The fifth chapter deals with the pedagogical implication of the both languages. The last chapter summarizes the whole thesis and presents a brief conclusion.
