Abstract: The present study entitled "ActivitiesUsed in Teaching Essays"attempted to find out the activities adopted in teaching essays in higher secondary and intermediatelevels. The study was carried out by using both primary and secondary sources ofdata. The major tool for collection of data was class observation form and therewere twenty teachers. Four classes of each teacher were observed. The collecteddata were analyzed and interpreted using simple statistical tool, viz. percentagewith the helpof tables. Data were analyzed and interpreted to find out the activitiesused in teaching essays in higher secondary level. The findings showed that theteachers employed different activities diversely. It was found that there were notany fixed activities in teaching essays. The activities were different from oneteacher to another. The condition of teaching essays was not satisfactory and theteachers were not adopting communicative approach of teaching. The motivationand follow up activities were foundto be too weak. The present study consists of four chapters. Chapter one deals with generalbackground, review of the related literature, objectives of the study andsignificance of the study. Chapter two deals with sources of data, samplingpopulation and sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of datacollection and limitations of the study. Likewise, chapter three deals with theanalysis and interpretation. Chapter four is the last chapter which deals with thefindings and recommendationsafter analysis and interpretation of the data.
