Abstract: The present study entitled"Effectiveness of Communicative Method inTeaching Speaking Skill"is an attempt to find out the effectiveness ofCommunicative method in developing grade nine students' proficiency onspeaking skill. In order to carry out this study, the researcher selected thirtystudents of grade nine from a school of Kathmandu district named Mount GlorySecondary School using non-random purposive sampling procedure. Theresearcher used both primary and secondary sources of data. The primary data waselicited from thirty students of grade nine of the selected school. After selectingthe sample population,a pre-test was administered to determine the students'initial proficiency on speaking skill. After that, twenty one lessons were taughtusing communicative method. Two progressive tests were conducted in theinterval of seven days. And, finally, the post-test was administered using the sametest items asked in the pre-test. Through the analysis and interpretation of the data,it was found that communicative method was effective in teaching speaking skill. This study incorporates four main chapters and other many sub-chapters. The firstchapter deals with the general background of the study, review of the relatedliterature, objectives and significance of the study. The second chapter consists ofthe methodology, data gathering procedure, and limitationsof the study. Similarly,the third chapter includes the analysis and interpretation of data. In the same way,the fourth chapter presents findings and recommendations based on the analysisand interpretation of the collected data. The final part of the study consists ofreferences and appendices.
