Abstract: The main aim of carrying out this research work on “Reading Comprehension Of Grade Five Students” was to identify the ability of the students of Grade five in comprehending written texts and to analyze their results on the basis of individual performance, sex and text type. Five public schools were selected from the Resource Centre No 9 of Morang district. Sixteen students were selected by stratified random sampling procedure from each of selected schools as a sample population for the study. Four sets of test items mostly consisting of objective questions were used as tools to test reading comprehension ability. Two seen and two unseen texts were extracted from authentic English text books. To find out the appropriateness of the test items, a pilot test was conducted before using them as tools for data collection. Finally, the test was administered on a sample population that included eighty students. This study found out that the students studying in grade five from the schools of Resource Center No 9 of Morang district obtained 27.71 in average out of 48 i.e. 57.72%. This shows that the reading comprehension ability of the students involved in the study is Good .The study also found out that the ability of boys and girls to comprehend the written text is 57.03% and 58.43% respectively. It shows that there is no significant difference between the performance of boys and girls. Again the study found that the students can perform far better on seen text than on unseen ones. That is because the students obtained 62.55% marks in the seen texts but 52.55% on the unseen texts. This study has been divided into four chapters.
