Abstract: This research entitled Writing Proficiency of Ten Graders in Tehrathum District has been carried out with the aim of finding out the writing proficiency adopted by the students of selected six higher secondary schools in Teharthum District. In order to find out the proficiency in writing a set of questionnaire for the students of government aided high schools was prepared. In the questionnaire, different questions were asked related to writing skills. This study is mainly based on the primary sources of data. The sample population of study consisted of 60 students studying in grade ten of Tehrathum District. Ten students were from each selected school. Thirty boys and thirty girls from six different higher secondary schools. The required data were collected by using questionnaire of subjective test. The responses were collected through answer sheets and analysed them. The research found that the proficiency of writing was good according to their level. In overall, the students of selected Higher Secondary School found to have good proficient in writing. In the gender-wise comparison, the female informants of each school performed better than the male ones. This thesis has been divided into four chapters. The first chapter deals with introduction which presents a brief overview of teaching writing skill, components of writing, process of writing, Mechanics of writing, stages of writing, the essential characteristics of good writing, Importance of writing, writing proficiency, Review of related literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study. Likewise, second chapter deals with the methodology of this study, sources of data, sample and sampling procedure, tools for data collection, limitation of the study. Third chapter deals with analysis and interpretation of collected data and fourth chapter presents findings and recommendations of the study. The findings have been outlined on the basis of the analysis and interpretation of the data and appropriate recommendations and pedagogical implications have been finally made. References and the appendices are presented in the final part of this study.
