Abstract: This thesis entitled “Clauses in English and Phedappe Limbu Language” is an attempt to identify and compare nominal clause system in English and Phedappe Limbu. This is a survey research in nature. The primary sources of data for the study were the Phedappe Limbu speakers of the Sabla V.D.C. The researcher selected 28, 30 and 25 informants from ward numbers 1, 2 and 3 respectively. She collected data using interview sheets. She applied judgmental sampling procedure for sampling the population. She spent 25 days for the collection of data. In the Phedappe Limbu language, nominal that clause ‘khen’ functions as a subject, nominalizer ‘-ba’ functions as direct object and nominalizer ‘-bo’ and nominal that clause marker ‘-gə’ function as subject complement. Similarly, nominal relative clause marker ‘khəne? functions as a subject, nominal relative clause marker ‘he?yo’ and ‘khen’ function as direct object, nominal relative clause ‘khen-in’ functions as indirect object. This thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one basically deals with the study in terms of general background, review of the related literature, objectives and significance of the study. Chapter two deals with the methodology that consists of sources of data, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitation of the study. Chapter three deals with the analysis and interpretation of the collected data. In this chapter, analysis of the Phedappe Limbu nominal clause, Phedappe Limbu nominal relative clause and converb clause have been done. Similarly, nominal clause system in the English and Limbu language has also been compared. Then, chapter four consists of findings, recommendations and pedagogical implications of the study. Findings are derived from the analysis and interpretation of the data carried out in chapter three and recommendations and pedagogical implications are made on the basis of those findings. Finally references and appendices are included.
