Abstract: This research study entitled “Writing Proficiency of Higher Secondary Level Students of the Banke District” was conducted to find out the proficiency of twelfth graders from three different Higher Secondary Schools of Banke District especially in free writing. The sample size of study includes 60 students from three different governmental or non-governmental Higher Hecondary School of Banke District .The research adopted the purposive non-random sampling procedures to select information .After conducting a test, the test items were finalized without changes because the pilot study showed the test items were appropriate. Then, the test was administrated to the students. After the marks were assigned to the sample students they were analyzed and interpreted in terms of different variables using different statistical tools. The avenge proficiency of the students in free writings was found 24.11among the students representing three different Higher Secondary Schools ;the students of Ram Janaki Higher Secondary school were found more proficient and the students of the stream of Education were found the least proficient. This thesis consists of four chapters. The first chapter deals with the general background of the study. It talks about free writing, few descriptions on it. This chapter also includes reviews of related literature, objectives and significance of the study. The second chapter deals with methodology. It also deals with the sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study. The third chapter consists of the analysis and interpretation of the data, where data was analyzed in terms of different headings, like total proficiency, college wise proficiency, sex wise proficiency and stream wise proficiency. The fourth chapter deals with findings and recommendations of the study that was found after analyzing and interpreting the data. References and appendices are appended to the fourth chapter.
