Title: Efficacy of Demonstration and Matchstick Figures in Teaching Present Continuous Tense

Abstract: This study is concerned with the efficacy of demonstration and matchstick figures in teaching present continuous tense. The researcher selected Shree Janapriya Secondary school, Bartung, Palpa as a research area for this study. There were 40 students as the informants. A pre- test was given before teaching to determine the proficiency level of the students at the beginning. Then, they were divided into two groups on the basis of the odd and even roll number in terms of individual scores. After dividing them into two groups, one group was taught the present continuous tense through matchstick figures and other group through demonstration technique. Then, the results of both the pre- test and the post- test were compared to determine the efficacy of the two techniques. The finding of this study is that teaching present continuous tense through matchstick figures is more effective than teaching through demonstration technique. This study consists of four chapters. The first chapter consists of general background of the study, review of the related literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study. The second chapter deals with the methodology adopted to carry out the research. In other words, it includes the sources of data, sample and sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitations of the study. The third chapter consists of analysis and interpretation of data in terms of the difference between the average scores in percentage of each group in the pre- test and the post- test. The fourth chapter presents the findings and recommendations. The findings derived from the analysis and interpretation of the data. In the final section of the study, the references and appendixes are included.
