Abstract: | This thesis entitled 'A Study of theLanguage Used in Prospectuses'has aimedat analyzing and describing the languageused in academic prospectuses interms of sentence types, aspect,tense, voice and register. Thisresearch isbasedon the secondarysources of data of academic prospectuses. The population ofthe study was all the prospectuses of academic institutionsofPokhara. The dataof the study were judgementally collected from different academic institutionsfound in Pokhara.The required data were collected through observation. Thesimple statistical tools were used to analyze the data by calculating the averageand percentage. The study foundthat simple sentence, simple aspect,activevoice and non-past tense, mainly simple present are highlyinuse intheacademic prospectuses. Similarly, some registerswere also foundin the textsof academic prospectuses. This thesis consists of four chapters and each chapter is divided intonecessaryheadings and sub-headings. Chapter one deals with the general background,review of the literature, objectives, significance of the study, mass media andits types, languageof prospectus and its essential components and definition ofterms. Chapter two presents the methodology of the study, sources of data,sampling procedure, tools for data collection and the process of data collectionand the limitation of the study. Chapter three deals with the analysis andinterpretation of the collected data in accordance with the categories of theobjectives. In this section, both statistical tools like average and percentage anddescriptive approaches have been used to reach the conclusion. Chapter fourdiscusses the findings and recommendations based on the analysis andinterpretation of the study. |
