Abstract: This present study “Using Mind Maps to Improve Students Free Writing Skill” is a practical study. The main objectives of the study are to use mind maps to teach the students free writing skill and to help them improve their writing skill. The researcher selected all the 40 students of Grade 12 studying in Shree Guru Jajur Higher Secondary School, Tuslipur , Dang as the sample population of her study. Her major tools of data collection were pre and post tests. She administered a pre-test before the actual classroom teaching. She included eight items in the pre test and the full mark was 50. Then she taught her students free writing using mind maps. She used 28 lesson plans to teach her students. Then a post test was given to the students to determine if the free writing skill of the students has improved or not. After the post test the researcher analyzed and interpreted the data she obtained from the pre and post tests statistically and descriptively. The average score of the students in pre test was 6.95 while it was 21.69 after the post test. The findings of the study have shown that the writing skill of the students had improved. The students had done better in all the eight items. This thesis consists of four chapters all together. The first chapter consists of general background of the study, review of the related literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study. The second chapter deals with the methodology and procedure adopted during the study. It includes the source of data, population of the study, sampling procedure and tools for data collection, process of data collection and limitation of the study. The third chapter deals with the analysis and interpretation of the data. The data have been analyzed and interpreted on the basis of the scores of the pre and post tests. Chapter four comprises findings and recommendations together with the pedagogical implications.
