Title: Translating Women's Voices into Action: Addressing Gender-Based Violence through Infrastructure Operations
Authors: ADB; Begzsuren, Tsolmon; Joffre, Veronica Mendizabal
Issue Date: Oct-2018
Description: This paper highlights the results of a study on the safety of public and private spaces for women and girls from urban ger areas in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. By examining how a study on sensitive issues—such as gender-based violence and domestic violence—informed the program design, the paper showcases the successful experience of incorporating gender design features into infrastructure operations in Ulaanbaatar’s urban ger areas that account for about 60% of the city’s population. A core message of the paper is that similar opportunities could be identified and replicated in other areas, such as transport, health, education, and urban development.
