Title: Promoting Old-Age Vitality in the People’s Republic of China
Authors: ADB; Zeng, Yi
Issue Date: Dec-2019
Description: This paper examines old-age vitality in the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and its associated factors, such as physical and mental health. In the PRC, the aging of the population is a far more serious problem in rural areas than in cities. Using the Chinese Longitudinal Healthy Longevity Survey and census data sets, this paper examines old-age vitality in the country and its associated factors, such as physical and mental health. It also recommends policies to better meet the needs of the PRC’s elderly population, especially in rural areas. These include strengthening services to improve the mental health of the elderly, further developing the rural old-age insurance program, and gradually raising the retirement age.
