dc.description.abstractThis study entitled " Characteristics of a Good Language Teacher: Students’ Evaluation" was conducted to find out students' expectations of a good English teacher, i.e. personal, social and professional qualities. The study was conducted in eighty students of class ten of five secondary schools in Ilam district. Those schools were selected through judgmental non-random sampling procedure and the sixteen students of each school were selected through fishbowl draw, random sampling procedure. The data were collected through questionnaire in this study. Through students' answers, I found that the teacher should have personal qualities like attractive appearance, curious and active behavior , punctual habit, calm and co-operative nature, social qualities like to feel proud of teaching profession, friendly manner. Likewise, among the professional qualities, the teacher should be skillful to motivate, fluent speaking and s/he should have good command of subject matter, good knowledge of classroom management and the knowledge of using instructional materials, skill to test and evaluate and ability to use teaching methods. The thesis consists of four chapters. Chapter one is an introductory part which includes general background, the review of the related literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study. Chapter two deals with the methodology applied during the study. Chapter three consists of analysis and interpretation of the data. Chapter four consists of the findings and recommendations of the study. Lastly this chapter is followed by reference and appendices.en_US
