Abstract: The present study Socio- Economic status of Limbu women: A study of Dharampur VDC Jhapa District is based on primary information collected from field survey. Nepal is an independent democratic and developing country where the socio- economic status of the women can play vital role for the national development but in male dominated country females are considered low standard and of less value. In recent years people have started realizing the importance of women role and participation in the economic as well as social and development activities. In Dharampur VDC most of the women have grater household responsibility than men. They have less access in higher study and less authority for decision making which is the main subject of this study. The main objective of this study was to analyze the educational attainment, decision making process in household activities and solution for the improvement of socio economic and cultural status of Limbu women in Dharampur, VDC. In this context, this is a case study on Limbu women of Dharmapur VDC, Jhapa, Nepal. In order to fulfill objectives. 63 household in the study area were selected. Information was collected from primary and secondary sources. Questionnaire, focus group discussion, key information were the major tools of data collection. This study analyzed the socio economic status of Limbu women especially in education, health, culture, decision making procesr, property ownership and employment status of Dharmapur VDC at Jhapa District. In study area the condition of women's education was very low due to causes of discrimination between son and daughter and early marriage of the girl. The higher percentage( 53.97%) of women were engaged in agriculture and source of income was agriculture. Then health status is satisfactory and 55.56% women are dependent an their male member. 49.56% women have no ownership in property. The study shows women have the low decision making in their personal life such as sexual intercourse and about family planning. They also have the low decision making in social participation, activities. Women are deprived of the decision on specific economic issues in their male dominated family. Therefore, we should extremely emancipate the women to develop their status as well as the nation with proper policies and program.
