Abstract: Migration is not only a process of shifting people from one place to another place. It is one of the basic components of the change in the population of particular area i.e. area of origin and area of destination. It is the process of movement of people from origin to destination place with a view to fulfill their basic needs. When people think more comfortable life to achieve in destination place than origin place. Migration has been classified into internal and international. The movement of the people in the country is known as internal migration and their mobility in another country is known as international migration. Migration is generally classified into seasonal, temporary and permanent. In-migration in Birendranagar Municipality is high and is the considerable subject matter of study. In-migrants people select the Birendranagar Municipality for their destination to achieve the infrastructural developmental facilities. The in-migrants of this study area are fully dependent on the facilities like education, job opportunities, business, transportation, communication, security, Modern and technological facilities and so on. This study is Internal Migration in Nepal (A Case Study on Birendranagar Municipality of Surkhet District) has been carried out using primary data sources obtained from in-migrants household of Birendranagar Municipality Ward no.4 of Surkhet District. The general objective of this study is to find out the different aspects of in-migration in Birendranagar Municipality ward no.4 of Surkhet District. The specific objectives of the study are: 1. To find out socio- economic characteristic of in- migration 2. To analyze the trend and pattern of in- migration 3. To find out the causes of in- migration. Descriptive research Design has been adopted for this study and other method of Methodology data collection techniques and tools, sampling etc. are used. There were total 547 households in ward no.4 in Birendranagar Municipality. Among those 430 in-migrant households, only 100 households were selected for random sample size. To generate the primary data the household survey was adopted and for this household survey structured questionnaire was prepared for interview, Key informant interview and observation was conducted by Simple random sampling from the in- migrants households of this Municipality. Most of the migrated people have totally changed their occupation from agriculture. They are involved in business and service sector. The general trend and pattern of in-migration is not quite same in different time in Birendra Nager Municipality. The history of in-migration process in the study area of Birendra Nagar Municipality is not very old. It only started after 2040B.S. because of the availability of infrastructural development facilities. People mostly migrate from rural to urban areas because of many facilities available. In Birendranagar Municipality such as education, job opportunities, business, security, modern technological facilities, transportation and communication etc. Thus many people have in-migrated from neighbouring districts in Birendra Nagar Municipality.
