Abstract: This study gives us glimpses about causes and consequences of landless people as well as physical and socio-economic issues related to housing, economic resource, education, health and sanitation, drinking water, basic facilities which are perquisites of development. Since decades, landless people are living in such communities with or without any legal authority of government and municipalities but the landless people have not acquired land ownership certificate and other fundamental rights. There are more than 65 landless people residing but I have selected 3 communities for this research. In Kathmandu district, there are around 2,551 households with 14,265 population but I have chosed three communities where 188 households live with the total population of 933. Among these three communities, 95 households and 473 populations have been selected through purposive sampling method. The main issue in the landless settlements is housing, where people are suffering and deprived from natural disaster, poverty, civil war and development. Secured housing and living condition with self dignity is a common dream shared by thousand of people in the communities. The other important issues found here are the marginalization faces by lower caste groups, women with not least human rights, prolonged education for children, water and sanitation facilities, communication problems leading to health environmental degradation and so on. The role of government, metropolitan city and Village Development Committees in addressing the issue of the landless peoples' proper is almost zero settlements, particularly safe housing is questioned. Overall, the situation of landless people is vulnerable and pitiable because of unmanagement settlements which is highly increasing in recent days in urban areas than decades before. An urgent attention of the professionals, policy and decision makers in the present global and national context, where rural- urban migration is ever increasing for a sustainable livelihood is needed with positive results to be implemented to minimize such issues.
