Abstract: The present research work is an effort to enlist, compare and contrast request and apology between English and Doteli. In order to carry out this study, the researcher collected data from Doteli native speakers of both educated and literate backgrounds in Bhumi Rajmandu VDC, Doti and English native speakers from different places of Kathmandu like British Council, Orbit Institute, The Lutheran World Federation, Hotel Garden Thamel, Basantapur, Durbar Square. The total sample of the study consisted 80 native speakers of English and Doteli. All the informants were selected by using purposive non-random sampling procedure. The main tool that the researcher used was questionnaire having 20 different situations. The equal number of questions having similar situations were provided to both English and Doteli native speakers. On the basis of the collected data, the comparison between English and Doteli was done using simple statistical tools such as frequency and percentage. The finding of the study shows that the English native speakers are more polite than the Doteli native speakers. The study consists of four chapters altogether. Chapter one deals with general background of the study, review of the related literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study. Chapter two deals with the methodology applied to carryout this research. It consists of primary sources of data, secondary sources of data, tools used for collecting data, process of data collection and limitations of the study. The third chapter consists of analysis and interpretation of the data. The fourth chapter presents the findings derived from the analysis and interpretation of data. It also consists of recommendations for the students and teachers of English and Doteli as a second language. In the final section of the study the references and appendixes are included.
