Abstract: This study has been carried out as an attempt to find out the exact readingComprehension of the grade ten students of Sindhupalchok District. For thestudy, 5 higher secondary schools of different locations were selected. Carefulattention was paid to select the schools. The students of grade 10 in theacademic year 2065 formed the population of the study. In the research, thetool consisted of only objective and short answer questions. The text includedin the test was an unseen passage. The studywas carried out to a samplepopulation of 100 students of grade ten. The researcher selected 20 studentswith equal number of boys and girls from each of the five schools by stratifiedrandom sampling method. The average reading comprehension of the gradetenstudents was satisfactory as they could comprehend 38.65 percentage. Anotherinteresting fact found out was that the Nepalese male students are better readersthan the female students by 1.5 percent more. The study consists of fourchapters and each chapter presents an account of the study from different sidesof the study. The first chapter of the study under the heading 'Introduction' incorporatesGeneral Background, Use of Reading Skills in Language Learning, Reading inthe ELT Context of Nepal, Significance and Objective of the Study, LiteratureReview and Definitions of Terms.The second chapter deals with themethodology adopted to carryout the research work which includes Sources ofData, Population of the Study and The School Sample, Process ofDataCollection, and Limitations of the Study. In the third chapter analysis andinterpretation of the collected data has been made in detail. For objectivity andaccuracy of the data analysis, statistical tools like percentage, median, standarddeviation, mode and average have been brought into practice. The fourthchapter of the study presents the findings obtained through the analysis of dataand some recommendations have been made with the hope that they will be ofvalue to pedagogical implication. Thefinal part of this thesis includes thereference.
