Abstract: The present study entitled "Code-Switching: A Case of Palpasa Café" attempts to present mainly descriptive study to find out mixed English expressions and reasons for code switching in the novel. The study was carried out using both primary and secondary sources of data. The major tools for collecting data were observation check list and questionnaire. To collect primary data 20 readers of the novel were given questionnaire and secondary data were collected by observing the total content and going through the novel time and again. After the rigorous analysis of the data, it is found that four hundred and eighty-two English expressions were mixed in the novel. Among the total mixed English expressions, 301 were of word level. One hundred and eight phrases, 2 clauses, 58 sentences and 13 abbreviated forms were observed in the novel. Regarding the reasons for code-switching, developing global interest towards English, author's English educational background, demand of the topic, author's desire to catch the sentiment of the young readers, author's desire to orient his writing towards the post-modernism were found as the most common ones. This study consists of four chapters: Introduction, Methodology, Analysis and Interpretation and Findings, Pedagogical Implications and Recommendations. The first chapter deals with the general background, literature review, objectives of the study and significance of the study. The second chapter deals with the methodology used in the study: the sources of data, population of the study, sampling procedure, tools of data collection, process of data collection and limitation of the study. The third chapter includes the analysis and interpretation of the data elicited. Code-switching in the novel is analyzed in terms of major word classes, phrases, clauses, sentence types and attitudes of readers towards reasons for code-switching. The fourth chapter incorporates the findings, pedagogical implications and recommendations made after the analysis of the data.
