Abstract: This thesis entitled "Negative and Interrogative transformations in Englishand Doteli dialect of the Nepali language: A comparative study" is anattempt to find out the process of negative and interrogative transformationin the Doteli dialect and to compare and contrast them with those in English.This thesis is based on Doteli dialect of the Nepali language.The data for this research have been collected from Rupal and ShirshaVDC's of Dadeldhura district. The processes of negative and interrogativetransformation in the Doteli language have been described and comparedand contrasted them with those in English.The major findingsin a nutshell are the negative markers 'nai' and 'jan' occurin different situations in Doteli dialect whereas English negative marker is'not' which is used in different situations; Doteli negative imperative markeris 'jan' which is placed before the verb whereras English negative imperativeis formed by placing donot/don't at the beginning of the sentence; DoteliYes/No Question are formed by rising the intonation, whereas EnglishYes/No question is formed by placing the auxiliary verb at the beginning ofthe sentence; Doteli wh-word occurs after the subject whereas English wh-word occurs at thebeginning of the sentences.The dissertation is divided into four chapters. They are introduction,methodology, analysis and interpretation and findings, recommendation andpedagogical implications.Chapter one encompasses general background literatures review, objectivesof the study, significance of the study.Chapter two deals with the methodology adopted for the study under whichsources of data, sampling procedure, research tool, process of datacollection, the limitation of the study.Chapter three is the most important chapter that includes analysis andinterpretation of data.Chapter four consists of findings, recommendations and pedagogicalimplications.
