Abstract: | This dissertation entitled "The English Language Used in NewsBroadcasting in Radio News: A comparative study" is an attempt to analyzeand describe the characteristic features of the English used in the News ofRadio Nepal, BBC and All India Radio. The study presents the comparativeanalysis of the characteristics of English used in News broadcast. Thecomparison is on such areas as vocabulary, sentence types, sentence length,word types, Tenses. In this research the data have been collected from Radio news broadcast:Radio Nepal, BBC and All India Radio during 26 to 30 Jestha. It has been found that therewas not a significant difference among thelanguage of news of Radio Nepal, BBC and All India Radio. The generaldifference was the matter of simplicity. As the news was recorded frombroadcast media, the language was simple in BBC, AIR and RN. In RN usedlonger sentences was some how longer than BBC and AIR news. Likewisenon-past sentences were maximally. The research consists of four Chapters. Chapter one introduces the studyin terms of general background, review of the related literature, objectives,ofthe study significance of the study and definitions of terms. Chapter two deals with methodology adopted for the study under whichthe sources of data. Sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process ofdata collection and limitations of the study are presented. Chapter three presents the analysis and interpretation of the data. In thissection both statistical as well as descriptive approach has been used. Chapter four incorporates findings and recommendations of thisresearch. The references andappendices form the concluding part of the thesis. |
