dc.description.abstractThis thesis attempts to analyze the structures and functions of adverbial clauses in the two languages –English and Nepali which are known to the descendents of the samelanguage Sanskrit. Therefore, the research writer has tried to find out the similarities anddifferences in their structures and functions between these languages. The method of observation, analysis and interpretation has been applied to make acomparative and contrastive study of the adverbial clauses. For example in order to collectthe data, some authentic books have been used both in English and Nepali. Furthermore somearticles from Topics in Nepalese Linguistics as regards the adverbial clauses and theconverbal clauses have been taken as the sources. The dissertation consists of four chapters. The first chapter introduces the Generalbackground of the importance of English and Nepali languages, and attempts to give thegeneral introduction of sentences, clauses and the adverbial clauses. This chapter also dealswith the review of the related literature and the objectives of the study. The second chapter deals with Methodology of the study. It comprises sources ofdata, population of the study, the process of data collection and limitation of the study. The third chapter deals with the analysis of the adverbial clauses in the English andNepali languages in terms of their structures and functions. Similarly, the fourth chapter deals with the findings and recommendations.After the comparison and contrast of adverbial clauses, the findings are concluded. Thefindings of this study has shown that there are many similarities in the structures andfunctions of adverbial clauses between these two languages. On the contrary, these are alsosome differences in the structures and functions of the clauses. References are given at the end of the thesis.en_US
