Abstract: This thesis report is an attempt to study some English and Tharu verbsrelated to ‘movement’, ‘cutting and breaking’, ‘eating and drinking’ and‘sense of organs’. The main objective of the study is to carry out thesemantic analysis of those verbs on the basis of one to one correlation,divergence and convergence, semantic overlapping and semantic inclusionin meaning. Mainly primary sources were used for the collection of data.However, some secondary sources were also used for the analysis ofmeaning. The primary sources were the native speakers of English andTharu. They were selected using judgmental sampling procedure. At first,the verbs were elicited from the respective speakers and they were analyzedon the basis of one to one correlation of meaning, divergence andconvergence, semantic overlapping and semantic inclusion. The main finding of this research study is that there is an inherent differencein semantic systems of English and Tharu verbs. It has been found that theEnglish and Tharu verbs do not have semantic equivalenceor one to onecorrelation in most of the cases. So attention must be given inteaching/learning of these areas where there are differences.This thesis contains four different chapters. The first chapter givesintroduction which includes general background, review of related literature,objective of the study, significance of the study and definition of the relatedterms.The second chapter deals with the methodology which includes sources ofdata, sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of data collectionand limitation of the study. viii The third chapter includes analysis and interpretation of the collected data.The fourth chapter presents the finding and the recommendation that arebased on the analysis and interpretation.
