Abstract: This thesis entitled "Content Validity of Semantics and Pragmatics Exam at M.Ed. Level" attempts to find out whether the Semantics and Pragmatics question papers have content validity or not. The main objective of this research work was to examine the content validity of' Semantics and Pragmatics' question papers at M.Ed. level. For this purpose, the researcher has analysed 6 years question papers from 2058to 2063 B.S. related to the subject in question. He has analysed the question papers asked by Tribhuvan University. He has used only secondary sources of data. He has examined the content validityfollowing two criteria: 'coverage' and 'weighting'. After the analysis of the question papers as a whole, it has beenfound that 'Semantics and Pragmatics' questionpapers have high contentvalidity in terms of coverage but low content validity in terms of weighting. This study is divided into four main chapters. Chapter one dealswith the introduction which consists of general background, Semantics,Pragmatics, language testing, Qualities of a good test, course structure ofthe master's degree in English education, the syllabus of 'Semantics and Pragmatics' at M.Ed. level. It also includes the review of the related literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study. Chapter two deals with the methodology which consists of sources of data, process of data collection and limitations of the study. The researcher has made use of only secondary sources of data. Chapter three deals with the analysis and interpretation of the data.The data have been analyzed and interpreted in terms of coverage and weighting to find out the content validity of the tests. ix Chapter four deals with the findings and recommendations of the study. The findings have been outlined on the basis of the analysis and interpretation of the data, and appropriate recommendations and pedagogical implications have been made.
