dc.description.abstractThe main purpose of the thesis entitled "Language Used in Invitation and Greeting Cards" was to describe and analyze the characteristic features of wedding and birthday cards from linguistic and physical point of view.This thesis presents the detailed description of the linguistic aspect of language in terms of tense, voice, vocabulary and sentence length. It also describes the physical aspect of wedding and birthday cards in terms oft heir shape, size and fold. The data for the research were collected from different presses and gift shops of Kathmandu Valley. The total sample of the study consistedof80 cards (40 wedding card and40 birthday cards). The main tool tha tthe researcher made use of was observation.The findings of the study show that active voice and non-past tense were found to be used maximally rather than other types.Regarding the physical aspect rectangular shape, medium size and single fold were found to be frequently used than others. This thesis comprises four chapters. Chapter One introduces the study interms of general background, review of the related literature, objectives,significance of the study and definition of specifi cterms. Chapter Twodeals with the methodology, which consists of the sources of data,sampling procedures, tools for data collection, process of data collection,and limitations of the study.Chapter three presents the analysis and interpretation of the data. The data have been presented and analyze ddescriptively with the help of tables. Finally, in the fourth chapter,findings of the study are summarized with some recommendation sand pedagogical implications. The references and appendices form the concluding part.en_US
