Abstract: This study attempts to determine grade IV students' achievement of vocabulary included in grade IV textbook. The students under this study are altogether eighty (80) in numbers, twenty (20) from each of four schools of Lalitpur district. The researcher prepared a list of content words (noun, verbs, adjectives and adverbs) used in the English textbook of grade four and counted their frequency. The vocabulary items having high frequency were taken. A set of written tests was used as the main tool or instrument for the data collection. The data were provided by the 80 students of two urban and two sub-urban schools of Lalitpur district. The sample population was selected by using a random sampling procedure. Twenty students were selected from each school. The data obtained were analyzed and interpreted using descriptive approach and simple statistical tools i.e. mean and percentage. The findings of the study showed that the English vocabulary Achievement of the students of grade four in content words was found satisfactory in total but not in school-wise analysis. It was found that there was a great disparity in students' achievement of English vocabulary in different schools. Overall, in urban schools the achievement of students in content words was found better than those of sub-urban schools. The present work is divided into four chapters. The first chapter includes general background, review of the related literature, objectives of the study and significance of the study. The second chapter deals with the methodology, which includes sources of data collection and limitations of the study. The third chapter is concerned with the analysis and interpretation of data. Findings and recommendations are given in the fourth chapter. The model of the test items, students' answers and references are given in the appendices.
