dc.description.abstractWiththepopularityofsmartphones,alotofproblemarebeingsolvedthroughtheuseof mobileapplications.Oneoftheproblemisroadaccidentswhichoccursduetomainlythe poorconditionofroad.Teauthoritiesneedtokeeptherecordabouttheconditionofthe roadstobeabletomaintaintheroadsingoodcondition.Mobilephonewithembedded powerfulsensorssuchasaccelerometers,gyroscopesetcmakeitverypowerfulsothis thesistriestoexploitthesesensorstodevelopasystemcapableofautomaticallydetecting thepotholesinrealtime.AlgorithmslikeZ-THRESH,Z-DIFF,STDEV(Z)andZ-ZEROare widelyusedtodetectpotholesinrealtimebuttheyhaveveryhighfalsepositiveresult whenusedindividuallywiththresholdvalueskeptconstant.Inthisthesis,thethreshold valuesaremadedynamicandittakesthevalueasafunctionofspeed.Also,thepot- holesaredetectedbasedonresultofallfouralgorithms.Teusersonlyneedtoenable theapplicationwhiledrivingandallthedataaresenttotheserverandthepotholesare mappedinwebintherealtime.Tesystemdevelopedisevaluatedusingdataobtained fromcrawdad.orgdatasetandalsoverifedonthedatasetgeneratedthroughandroidap- plicationwhichshowbeterresultthanpreviouswork.en_US
