dc.description.abstractThis researchentitled "An Analysis of the Vocabulary Used in My English BookforGrade One"attempts toanalyse the vocabulary used in My English BookofGradeOneofgovernment aided schools in terms of frequency and difficulty level. The researcheranalyzed all the vocabulary items contained in the textbook with their frequency ofoccurrence and administered the test items to the randomly selected students in threedifferent schoolsofPyuthan district. The researcher administered ten different test items fordifferent word classes to findoutwhich part of speech can be highly scored inone hundredfull marks.The difficulty level was identified through the score obtained by students. Thetotal achievement, school wise achievement and item wise achievement were displayedthrough thedescriptiveand statistical tools. The researcher found that there are217 different vocabulary used in My EnglishBook Grade Onecontaining different parts of speech. Noun occupied almost half (47.93%)of the total vocabulary used in MyEnglishBook One.Conjunctions and articlesoccupied0.91% of the total vocabulary, respectively in the textbook. It was also found that most ofthe students felt difficulty inusingpronouns,prepositions, interjections and articles. Theachievement seemed to be below in these items. The achievement on verbs, nouns,adjectives, adverbsseem to be satisfactory.This thesis consistsof four chapters. The first chapter deals with a short introductionof theEnglish language in general,vocabulary,literature review, objectives and significance of the study.The second chapterisrelated tothe methodology adopted to carryout this research work.It incorporates sources ofdata, sample population and sampling procedure, tools for data collection, process of datacollection and limitation of the study. The third chapter deals with the interpretation of data. It presents the vocabularyused in theEnglishTextbookof Grade One,achievement of vocabulary of the students andthe difficulty level of the students. The fourth chapter deals with the major findings andrecommendation of the present study.en_US
